Are they going to imprison us here?

It is not enough that Evangelical Christian Fundamentalists want to imprison and advocate the murder of gay people in Uganda but now they are calling for that here in the United States. The American Family Association radio host and head of the Idaho Family Alliance, Bryan Fischer, recently posted these words in reply to an e-mail from a listener on his blog spot, Bryan Fischer-Focal Point:

Thanks for writing me about my comments on my program regarding homosexuality. It might be worth noting that what I actually suggested is that we impose the same sanctions on those who engage in homosexual behavior as we do on those who engage in intravenous drug abuse, since both pose the same kind of risk of contracting HIV/AIDS. I’d be curious to know what you think should be done with IV drug abusers, because whatever it is, I think the same response should be made to those who engage in homosexual behavior.

If you believe that what drug abusers need is to go into an effective detox program, then we should likewise put active homosexuals through an effective reparative therapy program. Secondly, I’m afraid you’re simply wrong about the Bible’s perspective on the law and homosexuality. Paul lists quite explicitly in 1 Timothy 1:8-11 the actions and behaviors that are the proper concern of the law:

“Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine…”

The bottom line here is that, biblically, those “who practice homosexuality” should come under the purview of the law just as much as those who take people captive in order to sell them into slavery. You express a belief in the Scriptures, and I trust your confidence in Scripture is not selective. If you believe all Scripture is inspired, then you are compelled to accept that legal sanctions may appropriately be applied to those who engage in homosexual behavior.

This is outrageous. That they have the audacity to continue to spew their lies and rhetoric of violence and hatred here or Uganda.  And few if any American leaders have spoken out against it.  Where are the politicians who take our money gladly?  Where is President Obama?  Where are religious leaders who would combat this kind of hatred.?  Is it that they think someone like Bryan Fischer is just a nut and shouldn’t respond?

Well this religious leader is speaking out now and to all who will listen.   This is absolutely outrageous that a group like AFA is allowed to endorse such hate speech. This kind of violence against gay people is hate speech.  Gay people are not criminals by nature no more than white evangelicals are criminal by nature.  Let us not confuse the two.

I know you first amendment rights folk and you purists will say that is America.  But at a certain point when is the line crossed between being able to say what you want and inciting and permitting crimes against humanity.  That is what Bryan Fischer is doing–crimes against humanity. The laws they push in Uganda are nothing short of genocide.  Let’s call it what it is.

Just look at Fred Phelps and his Westboro Baptist Church.  They continue to condemn gay people and call for their murder.  But recently Phelps and company have also added Jews to the list.  I get weekly an update of their venom and hatred they spew now both against gays and Jews.  Sounds very KKK like to me.  Will they add in people of color soon too?

We need to speak up! We need to demand accountability.  And we need to get others to join us.  AFA–we will not rest til you silence your hate speech and perhaps you should be investigated for advocating genocide both here and abroad.    Who’s with me?
